About
I dwell in possibility. – Emily Dickinson
Missy Pol
lock is a senior public relations major at Kent State University. She currently is president for the PRSSA Kent State chapter. Missy coordinates and oversees the chapter’s doings while searching for new ways for the organization to succeed. This semester, she helped initiate a community service committee where the chapter will participate in Relay for Life and Project Playhouse. Next year, the chapter along with the national organization will celebrate its 40th anniversary.
She is currently finishing up her year-long internship at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in the global communications department where she works part time writing and editing content for GO, the company’s intranet, with an audience of 75,000 Goodyear employees in 28 countries worldwide. During her time at Goodyear this past summer, Missy sat in as the communication co-chair for Goodyear’s 2006 United Way Campaign where she developed and executed a communications plan that increased participation and giving by 15 percent.
When she’s not learning everything there is to know in the Rubber Capital of the World, she is either giving in to her retail addiction or working on her backhand on the tennis court.
After graduating in May 2007, Missy plans to hit the ground running in an agency or corporate environment.
PRSSA Kent Conversations is a place for PRSSA Kent members to speak their mind. It was launched in hopes to create dialogue between members about the stuff that really matters — one conversation at a time. Each subject will be posted with you in mind — preparing you for that next big step as you start your PR career. Whether it be landing an internship, joining a PR committee in an organization, acing your first interview, choosing which sector of the field you want to pursue or edging your foot in the door at that agency — this is where you want to be.
